Apalling

I received an email with this clip from a TV guide article explaining that HBO is planning on airing an episode this Sunday which involves the characters being inside an LDS temple, participating in the sacred ceremonies there. They hired an ex-member (who no-doubt has negative feelings toward the church and will misrepresent our beliefs) to help recreate the ceremonies, rooms and clothing.
This is personally incredibly offensive to me, because I hold those things to be so sacred. We don't even discuss the details of the ceremonies that take place there with other members of our faith outside of the temple. We guard their sacredness, and HBO is intent on throwing them out to the non-understanding public with complete disregard. That is why I am posting the info on how to fight the airing of this episode here.

THREE THINGS YOU CAN DO TO STAND FOR SOMETHING:
1. VOICE YOUR CONCERN to HBO. (see below for a few suggestions for emails)
This is repulsive and beyond offensive. Click the link below to let HBO know this is intolerable.
Write to HBO at http://www.hbo.com/apps/submitinfo/contactus/submit.do?title=General%20Information&questiontype=general
2. FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE FCC:
The FCC is the government agency that regulates all broadcast and cable television. File a complaint expressing your shock and dismay at HBO treating the sacred ceremonies of any religion with such mockery and disregard, and that it is shoddy work hiring excommunicated members/enemies of church and giving them a public pulpit to hurt the church. To File a complaint with the FCC go to:https://remote.jencotech.com/owa/redir.aspx?C=6ea407eef24d4c3386565de1cc2fcae1&URL=http%3a%2f%2fesupport.fcc.gov%2fcomplaints.htm-Choose "Broadcast (TV and Radio), Cable, and Satellite Issues" and then click "NEXT."-Choose "Broadcast programs showing obscene, profane, and/or indecent material" then click "NEXT."- Click on "ONLINE FORM" Fill out the form with your complaint and submit.
3. WRITE TO TIME WARNER, the OWNER of HBO
Time Warner Inc.
One Time Warner Center
New York, NY10019-8016
212.484.8000

*Some suggestions for emails:If you write a letter, here are two things you'll want to RESPECTFULLY say in your own words to HBO:
-I believe it is wrong for HBO to publicly air portions of sacred ceremonies of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints without permission from the church and based on information given you by someone who has left the church and may harbor bad feelings toward the church and wish to do it harm.
-AND THE BIG ONE THAT WILL ALWAYS GET THEIR ATTENTION:
- If you air such an episode, I will cancel my subscription to all HBO channels (if you have them), and will not purchase HBO DVDs or any other HBO entertainment products or packages ever again. Furthermore, I will encourage my friends and associates to do likewise.
Dare to do right! Dare to be true!
We have a work that no other can do!

Thanks for taking the time to stand up for what you know to be right!

Wow! I feel personally violated. There's no way on the face of the earth I'd ever have an HBO subscription even if they cancelled the whole show. I'd rather have a lobotomy - the effect would be comparable to subjecting myself to their programming.

i was outraged when I heard about this - i got an email from several people letting me know this same thing and I totally agree with you ... unbelievable!!! I already wrote a letter pleading for this not to air, for them to realize that while they have their beliefs, we have ours and we need to be respected. that HBO is going to loose so many due to their choice in the matter. good for you for spreading the word even more. this is the modern day persecution they are talking about. they are worried about this turning into a 'halloween costume'...I'm outraged!

SO sick. I am so outraged. I wrote to everyone that you suggested. I understand they don't believe as we do, but they at least should have the decency to respect our beliefs and what we hold sacred. How dare they.

This may help. It put everything into perspective, and made me very proud to be a member of the church.

Sis. McKean sent me that link from the church publicity site as well...of course, the church is forever classy, and always right. I still wrote my respectful letters, because I still believe we have a right to voice concerns when we think something isn't right. But it would be a very good idea to read what the church has to say about this before you get too involved. Thanks to all. I think I'll post the church's statement as well.
